Octa-core Gionee Elife S5.5 ‘world’s thinnest’ smartphone


Chinese phone maker Gionee will launch the world’s thinnest smartphone in India on March 30. The Gionee Elife S5.5 is claimed to be the slimmest smartphone in the world and boasts a thickness of just 5.5mm. While Gionee is yet to announce the price of the phone, the Chinese pricing of CNY 2,299 (approximately Rs 23,500) gives us some idea. Gionee says this will be their biggest launch in India and the event has been scheduled for two days March 30 and 31 in Goa.

Apple improving Siri with third-party integration, iWatch support: Report

Apple is said to be working on expanding the functionality of its voice-based virtual assistant, Siri, enabling it to work with third-party applications other than Apple's own native apps, apart from making it more intelligent. According to the reports, the app is being worked upon keeping in mind its compatibility with the proposed Apple iWatch.

Now, a new website is making it easier for tourists to get much needed relief when traveling in an unfamiliar city or town.

The site, Airpnp, is modeled after the popular lodging website Airbnb, in which homeowners make their spare rooms or unoccupied dwellings available to paying lodgers for a fee -- often considerably less than the cost of a hotel stay.

New tool developed to detect and contain Android root exploit malware

Researchers have developed a new tool to detect and contain the type of malware that attempts root exploits in Android devices.

The new security tool is called Practical Root Exploit Containment (PREC). Developed by North Carolina State University researchers, the tool is said to improve on previous techniques by targeting code written in the C programming language - which is often used to create root exploit malware, whereas the bulk of Android applications are written in Java.
